This past Friday, the first of many Presidential Debates. If you weren't aware of this you officially live under a rock. If you didn't watch it for some reason, you have mental issues. This was a part of history that I am proud to say I saw. To root for Barack from the couch and truely understand the goals of these two men. Although I did think Barack did his thing, McCain was entertaining as well. He spoke a lot better than usual and even seemed to have a bit of swagger at times.I did realize some not so new things though. McCain kept saying Obama didn't understand or doesn't know something, whats up with that? Or his comment about the difference between strategy and tactics as if Obama was dumb. This is a man who graduated highly respected from Harvard!!! McCain wants to do a spending freeze on everything except for our defenses and veteran affairs. So basically if your not in the military, you are F*&cked!!! What about our school systems or health care, they can't get any money. Barack's strategic breakdown of money makes more sense and actually cares about the middle class. I thought Barack was a little too nice at times (all the compliments to McCain) but I could tell he was trying to remain civil. He probably didn't want to seem like the combative black man. With all that said, leave your comments. We can all learn from this and each other.

Interesting debate. Both candidates seemed to have danced around the questions and refused to make definitive action plans. However, McCain did appear to answer the question, about what he would cute for spending, directly when he would, as president, cut spending on all other projects except care for veterans, defense spending and entitlement programs. But as soon as Obama pointed out loop holes in his plan,I felt that McCain wouldn't really put this plan into action. McCain by no chance won this debate, and earlier when I started writing this comment I wasn't sure Obama won either, but that has changed. I think Obama won on the grounds that he didn't use emotional tactics (ie the bracelet, Reagan, and mother of soldiers' stories) to reinforce his solutions. He also won because McCain was not able to convince me that he isn't Bush2 and that what he plans to do will be the best thing for our nation. You would think with McCain's records, and history... hell his age, he would have the knowledge to know what really needs to happen. Guess wine doesn't get better with age. Eh,Obama could have stepped it up a notch. I can't wait to see the VP debate, that's gonna be good. Trust
I found McCain's need to continuously slander Obama and call him Miss. Congeniality very unnecessary. if anything, it only made McCain look like a dimwit who couldn't focus on the issues at hand, but had to make use of other tactics in order to distract people.
In my opinion, McCain's plan to better the economy is bullsh!t. Giving tax breaks to larger corporation will not create more jobs, all those corporations manufacture their product outside of the U.S. Its just a continuing trend of the rich getting richer and so on.
Now as a nursing student, I am very concerned with the health care system. McCain's little 5grand will barely cover a ride in the ambulance. And what about those who can't file taxes or working under the table. Do they not deserve the opportunity to get proper health care. Volunteering in health facilities, I watch as people who didn't have insurance or couldn't afford to pay for procedure get turned away. Universal health care will allow for those who seek help, to actually receive it. I want to know that I can advocate for my patients health, and not have to deal with insurance agency trying to make me understand why they do not cover a certain procedure.
All in all, I feel that Obama objective is to do what's right for the country, not just for Military personnels and veterans. Don't get me wrong, I have family and friends in the military. But this is a nation comprised of a diverse population.
I saw the debates. The McCain supporters say he won but we all know the truth. Obama held his own. He showed he was knowledgeable when it came to foreign affairs. He was not able to give a definate economic plan because he needed to see what the current administration was going to do before giving details on his own plan.
Obama showed much restraint throughout the debate. I knew he was probably just as pissed as some of us was with the way McCain refused to really look at him during the debate. He would only look at the podium or moderator when speaking. To me that was an insult. McCain kept lying about things and Obama had to correct him. I thought it was hilarious when McCain gave his "bracelet" story and Obama said he had a bracelet too. McCain's only claim to fame is that he's a POW. Yes, that's something and he deserves medals for it, but it does not mean you're ready to run a country. McCain kept trying to tug at folks emotions with all the stories but I saw straight through the BS and from comments on some of the message boards--others did too.
With the way the economy is right now, there is no way I would be up there bragging about being in congress for 20 plus years.
I watched, and felt neither won. However on the strangth that McCain is a liar I say Obama won... but Obama needs to step his debating skills up!
I watched the debate, and I do think that Obama showcased his oratory superiority to McCain. I think that he had the right tactics, by finding the good in his argument but then pointing out the bad. I was baffled when McCain said his statement about freezing spending except for the military and defenses. And I was utterly disgusted by his tactics to garner sympathy by his anecdotes and POW stories. Enough already, we get it. Your ancient and were in the war, got it! Now, back to the present.
i have to mention something... yes, spending has to be cutm i agree with mccain here. the biggest myth is that the only way to improve education is more money. THat is the biggest lie out there. We don't need more money to succeed. We need better teachers and ppl being able to choose their schools via vouchers. There are plenty of private, religious, charter schools who do far better off then some public schools with little to no money
