I do think that we as a people are not very embracing of other peoples and cultures. Interracial dating comes to mind.

Its not understandable ... but I guess we feel like we must still look inwards for power.

most of black america is definitely not as open. i grew up listening to annie lennox, peter gabriel, counting crows, red hot chili peppers, linkin park, and the list goes on. and i still love my hiphop and rap... yes there is a difference. when this comes up in coversation with other african americans, i'm looked at like i'm wierd, which is cool with me, i strive for it. but we definitely need to be more open as a people. you relate more to others and it provides a more dynamic view of the world and its experiences.

I LOVE Travis Barker... he is one talented mutha(shut yo mouth!). One of my greatest pet peeves is black people who won't experience something because it's "white folks sh!t". The older I've gotten, the more I've learned to appreciate that good music is just good music. And I LOVE how artists like Kanye and N.E.R.D. incorporate other genres into their music... it makes for a more interesting and richer musical experience. And Santogold is my hero(ine) for her musical style.

And Nikki, play your music shamelessly!! I'll play my Jamie Cullum and Kimya Dawson and Amy Winehouse just as loud as I play Q-Tip. It's people like us who have to be the ones to break those stereotypes!

Travis is so sexy... I embrace a lot of diff things... I listen to Spanish music, although I can't understand a word they are saying. I remember, back in the day, I was BOPPIN HARD to Bobby Digital. All my friends though I was nuts and would tease me endlessly. I have cds from Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, and Lily Allen, etc. I love new things.. but I agree, a lot of black folks aren't like that. I tend to turn my cd down in my car when listening to one of these artists... I don't want my people judging me.

Travis Barker is my favorite musician. That was great! He has a video like this with The Game, doing Dope Boys. It's nice also. Good music is good music. I play drums and guitar, but listen to anything. I have friends that write, perform and produce hip-hop (on a smaller level) but the most fun is laying down live drum beats for them to rap over. I like that better than a drum machine any day. Rap-rock got a bad reputation in the late 90's because it was done all wrong. Rock out to a hip-hop song, don't rap to a rock song! That's why Travis can play anything!
